Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8) are two of the best Android smartphones available on the market. They compete with each other in all aspects and, while one is better when it comes to sound quality, the other one might be faster during gameplay sessions.

The comparison can go on, but we’re here to talk about Samsung Galaxy S5’s display, which seems to be one of the best on the market.

It seems there’s a general consensus that Samsung nailed it and managed to provide Galaxy S5 with a stunning display that has few rivals.

In an attempt to explain how come Galaxy S5 is so good overall, Samsung published a very long blog post that contains all the technical details that should convince anyone why this display is better than others.

The first aspect mentioned in Samsung’s blog post is “visibility and adapt display.” According to the company, Galaxy S5’s new algorithm for display “supports super Dimming, which allows fine adjustment of luminance in dark environments.”

This means that owners will be able to use the Galaxy S5 “comfortably without having to strain their eyes from excessive brightness.”

Thanks to the Adapt Display technology, the phone’s screen lets users adjust to whatever environment they are in at any given moment.

The technology is capable of analyzing all incoming lights and content and optimizes automatically the color range, as well as saturation and sharpness of the display. Basically, Galaxy S5 users will have a customized display for video, camera, web browsing, and e-books.

But there is more to it, as Samsung claims its display is capable of adjusting itself to the surroundings like a chameleon: “conventionally, when you are under blue-tinted lighting, your smartphone tends to look different (yellow-ish) because your eyes adjust according to the surrounding lights, but the smartphone couldn’t.”

However, the Galaxy S5's screen adjusts the illumination level accordingly to make it look more natural to users.”

Samsung Galaxy S5’s screen is said to feature faster response time, thus improving user experience. According to the South Korean company, its response time is 0.01ms, which seems to be the fastest on the market.

When it comes to color accuracy, one of the most important aspects a user might appreciate in a display, Samsung claims its Galaxy S5 screen is again one of the best on the market.

The color accuracy of a display is measured by “color gamut” (range of colors) and “contrast ratio.” Here are Galaxy S5’s results when it comes to color realization:

- Super AMOLED color gamut is 1.4 times larger than TFT LCD. (70% -> 97%); - Super AMOLED contrast ratio is 77 times higher. (1,300:1 -> 100,000:1).

This means that the color gamut of the Super AMOLED screen embedded in Galaxy S5 is more vivid and offers better color accuracy, along with meeting international Adobe RGB standards.

What do you think about Samsung Galaxy S5’s touchscreen? Would you pick this one over other smartphones available on the market just because it packs such a stunning display?
