Spore has been one of the most hyped-up titles of last year, as it was the brainchild of Will Wright, the creator of the hugely successful Sims franchise, which is still making a big profit for Electronic Arts. The game, despite being plagued by issues caused by the infamous SecuROM Digital Rights Management system that protected it against piracy, became very popular and opened up a new type of gameplay for players.

The fact that you could take a single cell organism and guide it through various stages of evolution, from the primordial goo to space exploration, was something completely new for all PC gamers. Seeing just how successful it had become, the development team decided to create new versions of the game for other platforms. As such, soon enough, Nintendo Wii and DS owners will also get the chance to play the successful game, as two version will be created for the consoles, along with two more titles previously announced for the PC.

Now, Lucy Bradshaw, the general manager of the EA-owned Maxis studio, which is responsible for the Spore and Sims franchises, has talked with MTV Multiplayer and revealed some very interesting facts about the upcoming Spore Hero title, which will be exclusive to the Nintendo Wii. Primarily, the game, which has been made from scratch, will consist of a bigger version of the Creature stage from Spore combined with a wide variety of motion-sensitive controls that the future Wii MotionPlus peripheral might be a part of.

The story is quite simple, as you start off creating a creature by using the pointer displayed onscreen and controlled by the Wii Remote. After the customization process, the game takes a new twist, as opposed to the PC version, in which you would start off in single cell stage. “Your planet that you’ve lived on has had a catastrophic event and you’re essentially plummeting to a new planet on the tail of a meteor,” said Bradshaw. “You arrive there and you start encountering new creatures. This is a new planet that you’ve got to make as your own. So you start in a series of quests and adventures in a kind of open world that you can take at your own pace.”

Besides performing actions for your own race, you will encounter new creatures on that planet and interact with them. Quests will also appear and will dictate what features or abilities your own race will discover, such as jumping or trading. No screenshots have appeared yet, but more details will certainly come out before the fall release of the game.
