Launched in 2009 by The Coca-Cola Company, it's the first ever recyclable PET plastic bottle made partially from plants. Recently adopted by Heinz for the ketchup bottles, PlantBottle packaging is made from up to 30% renewable sugar cane material and is still 100% recyclable.

To ‘spice-up’ the availability of the Heinz Ketchup PlantBottle packaging, the American company has launched an eco-themed sweepstakes that puts consumers to the test in respects to their green knowledge.

Dubbed “Guess What We Just Planted?”,  the trivia game and sweepstakes offers some interesting eco-friendly prizes, including a hybrid car and eco-vacation to Costa Rica.

In order to participate, enthusiasts simply answer an eco-themed “Guess What?” trivia question. No worries, whether you answer right or wrong, you’re still eligible to enter.

“Heinz is committed to finding innovative solutions that are better for the environment, but still meet the needs of our customers,” stated John Bennett, Vice President – Foodservice Ketchup, Condiments & Sauces. “We’re excited to bring Heinz Ketchup in PlantBottle packaging to restaurant tabletops across the country, and to use QR code technology to educate our consumer with an engaging sweepstakes.”

There are a few different ways to play the “Guess What We Just Planted?” game.

First off, the back of the 20-ounce (590 ml) Heinz Ketchup bottles in restaurants will feature a QR code for a limited time.  A first for Heinz, use a smart phone to scan the QR code on the back of the Heinz Ketchup bottle, which will bring up a website to enter the sweepstakes.

You can also text the word “PLANT” to the number found on the back of the Heinz Ketchup bottle (57000) and a return message will have website information on how to enter.

Finally, enter the dedicated website to play the game and enter. Entries can be made once a day until September 30, 2011 for a chance to win one of the 57 eco-friendly prizes.
