The animal was badly injured after falling down a drain filled with cleaning fluid

I dare say there is no better way to get ready for the weekend than hear about an animal rescue story with a happy ending, so here is Vera's tale.

This tiny hedgehog lost nearly all its spikes after accidentally falling down a drain filled with cleaning fuel. The fluid burned its skin, and, as noticeable in the picture above, the result was not all that pretty to look at.

The good news is that the animal was found shortly after the incident had happened, and taken to the Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in the United Kingdom.

Vets treated its injuries, and Vera was soon back in good health. At first, the hedgehog's rescuers assumed that the animal would forever remain bald, and that fixing its injuries was the best that they could do for it.

As it turns out, they were wrong. Thus, not long after last year's Christmas, Vera's spikes started growing back, Daily Mail reports.

“Her skin looked healthy but I was unsure if she would ever regrow her spines. Then just after Christmas a short stubble appeared,” Les Stocker, founder of the Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital explains.

Judging by how much progress Vera has until now made, it is likely that it is only a matter of months until it fully recovers and its caretakers are able to return it to the wild.
