Blizzard Entertainment has announced that Goblins vs Gnomes, the first major expansion for Hearthstone, will become available to players starting December 8.

The expansion was teased a few weeks ago through a series of mysterious blueprints and was finally revealed at Blizzcon 2014.

Goblins vs Gnomes adds more than 120 new cards to the already extensive library that players can use to build their custom 30-card decks and then compete against each other in ladder play.

The expansion is teeming with flavor, focusing on one of the greatest rivalries in Warcraft lore, the cunning mechanical competition between Goblins and Gnomes, the tinkerers of the Horde and the Alliance.

Revitalized gameplay

Prepare to have all your notions about what a decent deck blown away represents, as the massive infusion of over 120 new cards will no doubt give deck crafters a lot of headaches.

The Curse of Naxxramas: A Hearthstone Adventure, the collectible card game's first single-player adventure, only introduced a number of 36 new cards into the equation, and it managed to create new staples that no good player ventures into the competitive fray without.

With three times that many cards and lots of new and exciting mechanics, Goblins vs Gnomes is likely to bring a breath of fresh air to those who are getting tired of playing and facing the same decks day after day, as the period when gamers get accustomed to the new cards, before the new staples emerge, is usually the most fun to play in.

A bunch of new mechanics

The new cards come with a slew of flavorful mechanics, the first of which is the introduction of a new minion type, mechs. Mechanical beings are the specialty of both Goblins and Gnomes, so we'll see quite a few artificial life forms in the coming months.

From spare parts and pilots ejecting from the machinery just before it explodes into a rain of cogs and scrap metal, to mechs that get better the more of their brethren are on the battlefield, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Even those who aren't that big on the contraptions of the technically inclined Gnomes and Goblins will find something to their liking, as each class will get some brand new toys to play with.

The new cards will become available in special card packs purchasable from the store with either in-game gold or real currency, and starting December 8, arena runs will also reward winners with Goblins vs Gnomes card packs.
