An entirely new class might be in development

The development team at Blizzard has introduced a new short story which seems to suggest that the company is getting ready to reveal a new character for Hearthstone or that an alternate version for an already existing one, the Warrior, might be announced.

On Battle.net, the studio is offering a short narration that talks about tense games, and mugs hoisted in celebration when a winner emerged.

Blizzard adds, "An imposing, broad-shouldered figure lingered at the door. Patrons squinted, their eyes adjusting to the light as they tried to make out the newcomer. Hesitation brought with it a mild tension as for a brief moment, no one moved or spoke."

No clear information about the meaning of the short story has been offered so far through official channels.

The single attached image is the same one that is used for hero portraits, and the site also uses a name suggesting that a reveal might be coming soon.

The company said in 2014 that it did not want to introduce entirely new classes for Hearthstone because that would lead to too many changes to the balance of the card game.

Fans are speculating that the teaser refers to a new alternate version of the Warrior, with the candidate that most gamers currently mention being Magni Bronzebeard.

It's unclear whether Blizzard will just offer a cosmetic tweak or if actual gameplay changes are planned.

Hearthstone needs to get regular content drops

The card game was recently expanded with the addition of Blackrock Mountain as a playable adventure, with the wings opening up all across the month of April.

Since then, Blizzard has not talked about future expansions for the title, and it's unclear whether it is planning to introduce another big content drop before the end of the year.

Traditionally, Hearthstone alternated between adventures and new card drops.

The company might be trying to shake up that system in order to try and offer a range of other tweaks for the title, starting with alternate versions of the included classes.

An official announcement might take place during E3 2015 and Blizzard is also planning more reveals linked to Hearthstone during the coming BlizzCon event.
