Rock Band is one of the most popular music games out there, bringing its developer, Harmonix, and publisher, MTV Games, quite a lot of profit. It was the first game that introduced other instruments to the music genre, giving users the opportunity to play the drums or vocals, and also came with a unique DLC (Downloadable Content) distribution service.

It paved the way for new changes and really pushed the whole music game genre to new heights. But, as the title and its sequel were launched on a variety of platforms, delays between release dates appeared. For example, with Rock Band 2, Harmonix released the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PS2 versions a few months ago, but Nintendo Wii owners were left with the original game, as the second one will appear on their console on December 18th.

Along with the announcement of this new date, Harmonix also issued an apology to all the Wii owners on the official forum of the game. In it, the company emphasized the fact that it needed time in order to deliver a complete Rock Band experience on the small white console and that it would offer quite a lot of features, like an online world tour mode, updatable battle of the bands statistics and a DLC catalog that would keep on expanding after the game would be launched.

“We've seen that many users in the Wii community have been unhappy with the period of time between Rock Band's release on other platforms and on Wii. We want to apologize for the delay in getting RB2 onto the Wii and to reaffirm that we believe that Wii is an amazing and unique fit for Rock Band 2, and one that we care deeply about getting right,” read the statement on the forum.

The announcement also mentioned that Rock Band 2 would be compatible with any type of guitar or drum controller that was compatible with the Wii, meaning that owners would save up a pretty large amount of money, which would have been spent on buying new instruments. Considering the fact that this release is just on time for the winter holidays and knowing the huge popularity that the Wii enjoys, Harmonix is sure to sell quite a lot of games.
