They have aluminum voice coils that extend sounds beyond human hearing

Headphones can be a curious bunch, as they come in many, many forms and just as many performance levels. Harman always makes high-end models, but the ones it has just unleashed are on a different level from even those.

One might say that the same can be stated about all AKG-Series headsets, but even so, Harman claims that the new ones, the K812 reference headphones, are better than the others.

At least as far as the dynamic sound range goes anyway. And it's all thanks to the oversized 53mm drivers.

Harman has also implemented a copper-covered aluminum voice coil, which extends sound beyond the limits of normal human hearing.

Add to that the comfortable build, with soft ear pads and adjustable headband, and there isn't much to complain about.

"The AKG K812's are not only our newest reference headphones, but they are the very pinnacle of technological innovation to which we've aspired in our 65 years of innovation," stated Kent Iverson, director of marketing and product development, AKG.

"K812 is the result of an intensive 5-year research and development program to achieve, as near as possible, the perfect headphone. The level of technology and engineering invested in K812 exceeds the industry standard, resulting in truly the best sounding headphones AKG has ever released."

Well, maybe there is something to complain about: the price. We can't know for certain though, since Harman didn't release it. Harman usually asks for a lot of money in exchange for its products though, and this is a premium item even among premium items.

After all, it's not every day that a headset employs a 1.5 Tesla magnet system, a compound diaphragm, an air-flow dome with controlled membrane movement, and an all-metallic cardanic hinge (high robustness and sealing of ear pads). In layman terms, the Harman AKG K812 is a stylish but tough bringer of crystal-clear sound.
