"A typical English combination of security, cuteness, and kitsch things"

Matthias Megyeri, a German born artist living in England, founder of Sweet Dreams Security firm, intends to create a new trend, which combines technology with art, the result being a perfect kitsch-like design, informs BBC Online.

The main reason for which Megyeri decided to recreate the design of several devices, especially the one of security cameras or alarms, was that these items are viewed as being "symbols of threat and fear".

"When I discovered art, I decided to look into two contemporary psychological illnesses, paranoia, and this over-exaggerated desire for kitsch that we have today," he said.

As a result, security cameras made to look like cats, and yellow alarms bordered by plenty of daisies are meant to change the way people feel when being near to these protection devices, and also to destroy the human need for kitsch, by displaying as many tasteless items as possible.

"Weirdly enough, I've developed a certain fetishism towards security products. If my critical approach to this is a bit subtle, in a way, it's not too bad if people don't get my critical message," Megyeri added.

Even if "average people" won't receive his message, Megyeri entered in the "hall of fame" of "The Great Brits", an art exhibition in which many of his works were on display. But this wasn't the only time when these "weird creations" were presented and praised. Other museums of modern art, based in Tokyo, Israel or New York, received the German artist with open arms.
