Nokia's Symbian S60 operating system still has lots of undiscovered tweaks and shortcuts that could greatly increase the user-friendliness of the device. I'm pretty sure that Symbian fans are most likely already 'acquainted' with the following tips, but I'm also sure that there are more people who don't know that much about their phone's potential.
These shortcuts will teach you how to quickly access functions that are otherwise 2, 3 or even 4 clicks away. The first thing you should know is that you don't need to navigate through the main menu by using the D-pad. You can simply click on a number (0 to 9) as every icon on the menu has a corresponding shortcut number.
Also, while writing a message or an email you can switch between symbols, letters and numbers by clicking the '#' key. Furthermore, if you long press the '#' key while writing a message it will activate / deactivate predictive text (T9), assuming that the phone features one (most S60 handsets do).
If you're looking for fast browsing through menus, bear in mind that a shortcut on the left menu key in standby-mode will open slower than the one on the right. The main reason seems to be the fact that the left key is widely used as 'keylock' together with the '*' button. Basically, the phone will wait a little longer for you to press the '*' key, so you can unlock the keypad, even if you don't want that.
There are also two shortcuts that can be used when the phone is in standby mode. The first one launches your wap homepage when pressing and holding the '0' key. The second one enables you to quickly dial a phone number stored on your SIM card, by dialing 15# (dials the number stored on SIM in memory slot 15), and so on.
