14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft Solitaire was pre-installed on all Windows versions until Windows 8, when the company suddenly decided to remove it and offer a Modern edition of the game separately in the store.
While the removal of Solitaire wasn’t really the biggest problem of Windows 8, it turns out that Microsoft did receive some complaints on this, so the company is now working to pre-install the game in the upcoming Windows 10.
Technical Preview build 10056 comes with what’s being called Microsoft Solitaire Collection Preview Build, a new version of the aforementioned Metro app that seems to be specifically tweaked to be pre-installed in Windows 10 and to be played by anyone updating to this OS.
Several games, challenges, and themes
Basically, the new Solitaire Collection game will come with the same feature lineup as the version available for Windows 8 users, with one big difference: it’ll include a new UI that looks fresh and modern, just like Windows 10.
There will be several games offered to users, including Klondike, Spider, FreeCell, Pyramid, and TriPeaks, as well as daily challenges, awards, leaderboards, and statistics to make the game a bit more exciting.
There will also be several themes to customize playing cards and the game itself, but all of these would be offered at a later time.
As you can see in the photo gallery below, many of the features available right now are locked, so you can’t access them in build 10056, but they’re very likely to be enabled once the game is included in an official build of Windows 10. Right now, build 10056 is just a leaked version, so Microsoft doesn’t support it in any way.
Overall, Solitaire Collection will really be welcome addition to Windows 10, but there’s still no confirmation that Microsoft wants to pre-install this in the full version of the OS. But either way, hello, Solitaire; goodbye, productivity!
