It’s been more than a month since Halo: Spartan Assault for Windows Phone was announced and the game has finally landed on Windows Phone Store.

The title is only available for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, has been developed by 343 Industries and Vanguard Games and offers a top-down gameplay experience rather than an FPS model.

According to developers, the action is set between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4, all the more reason for fans of the franchise to try it out if they have a Windows Phone 8 device.

Halo: Spartan Assault is a new chapter of the highly-acclaimed Halo universe and delves deeper into the background story of Human-Covenant wars.

Players will get the chance to explore the first missions of the Spartan Ops program and play from the perspective of either Commander Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis, both of whom are stationed aboard the UNSC Infinity, as they fight completely new battles against Covenant forces.

343 Industries promises “rich storytelling, intuitive controls, and best-in-class action, audio and graphics,” but that’s for players to decide.

Keep in mind that Halo: Spartan Assault features no less than 25 single-player campaign missions and some integration with Halo 4. It appears that players will be able to unlock emblems for Halo 4 Spartan career as they earn experience points and achievements while playing Halo: Spartan Assault.

There’s more to it, as they will be able to compete against friends in Leaderboards or practice their skills against Weekly Challenges.

Halo: Spartan Assault is now available for download for $6.99 via Softpedia. The game is only compatible with Windows Phone 8 devices featuring 1GB of RAM and at least 700MB of free storage.

In the US, the game is exclusive to Verizon Wireless customers for the next 30 days. Last but not least, WPCentral reports that Windows Phone 8 devices that pack 512MB will receive support for Halo: Spartan Assault sometime in August.
