Halo: Reach, the Bungie developed and Microsoft published shooter that has arrived exclusively on the Xbox 360, has managed to top the United Kingdom video games chart during its first week on sale, ending the reign of the gangster story that was Mafia II.

Halo: Reach was a very successful launch for Microsoft, managing to move more copies than any previous game in the series in the first week on shelves worldwide, and the United Kingdom is no exception, with fans flocking to pick up the game that marks the last time Spartan characters will be handled by developer Bungie.

Second spot in the chart went to Sports Champions from Sony, a game which was designed to show off the abilities of the PlayStation Move motion tracking system that is arriving for the PS3.

Strong sales of Sports Champions might mean that Move is also selling well and that motion tracking is proving to be an attractive proposition for gamers.

Mafia II from 2K Czech is in third place in the chart and, despite more downloadable content arriving soon for the game, it's unlikely that the game will again top the chart, considering the number of high quality titles coming out in the next few months.

Toy Story 3 from Disney Interactive Studios manages to stay at number four while Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands from Ubisoft managed to get to fifth place coming from second to last in the top ten.

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2., the arcade flight game from Ubisoft, saw a pretty precipitous drop reaching sixth place coming from second last week.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, from Eidos and Square Enix, also dropped four places, coming into seven coming from third.

Just Dance seems to be staging a comeback, managing to get into eight place, up three from eleven, while Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 sits at number nine.

Red Dead Redemption closes down the top ten with R.U.S.E. one of the main titles to leave the chart.
