Other timeline details will be revealed soon

Halo is one of the most complex video game universes and much of the lore associated with it was created by the team at Bungie that has since moved to work on Destiny, but 343 Industries is aiming to put its own mark on the franchise by clarifying some elements of the narrative even as it works on the fifth full game associated with it.

In a new Halo Waypoint update, the team explains that the firing of the Halo Array is one of the most important moments in the entire narrative, and recently players have been thinking again about its importance after a fan wondered about the birth year of Ur-Didact, Shadow-of-Sundered-Star, which is at the moment set for 110255 BCE.

343 Industries states that the Halo Array was fired exactly in 97445 BCE.

They explain that “There are a number of factors that have brought us to this date, including a very peculiar incident on June 11, 2007, when the AI construct known as Adjutant Reflex broke the proverbial fourth wall and left the Halo community with a vital piece of information. Reflex stated that the firing of the Array happened 871,803,909 +/- 384 hours ago.”

Apparently, the team has an entirely accurate timeline it uses internally and plans to offer more details about it in the coming months, with some surprises in store for the community.

Gamers interested in the chronology would also do well to explore the Greg Bear-written trilogy of Halo novels Forerunner.

Halo 5: Guardians will create an entirely new timeline

The new title in the franchise is at the moment expected to arrive later in the year on the Xbox One.

343 Industries and Microsoft have only offered limited information about the story they are planning to tell, saying that Master Chief will be heavily involved and that a new threat to all life in the galaxy needs to be dealt with.

Rumors are also saying that a new incarnation of Cortana will be introduced and that Agent Locke, seen in Nightfall, will be involved in the first half of the narrative.

Halo 5: Guardians had a closed beta test for the multiplayer mechanics earlier in the year, showing gamers how new ideas like sprinting would work in the full title, although some changes might be introduced before release.
