Even if Halo 4 is still quite a few months away from its launch on the Xbox 360, developer 343 Industries has talked about the next installment in the new trilogy – Halo 5 – and how it might be improved upon if it’s going to be released for a next generation Xbox, like the oft-rumored Xbox 720.

Microsoft has always relied on its Halo console to show off the power of its Xbox devices and that’s why quite a few fans have been surprised to hear that the first installment in the new trilogy will still be appearing on the Xbox 360, not on its successor.

The next installment in the series, however, will certainly take advantage of any new hardware that appears throughout its development process, at least according to the Lead Game Designer of 343 Industries, Scott Warner.

"Obviously we're always attuned to new developments with what's happening internally and externally," he told the Independent.

"Our current development is all centered around the Xbox 360 and trying to harness everything we can get out of that box, so everything you're seeing is sort of custom built for the 360 experience. Obviously depending on what happens and develops with our company, we'll try to develop our technology and take advantage of it."

Warner delved deeper into the problem of making a game for a new console and revealed that it was up to the developer to find a balance between keeping the classic features and adding new ones.

"I mean certainly as things develop, we have the advantage of working for a publisher and first party development, and if things happen we would certainly want to take advantage of those things," he added.

"There's always kind of a careful balancing act between what you decide to improve upon, what you have that you think is really good, what's the great mixture of that to put you in the best position to be successful as a team. But certainly as things go on in development we have an advantage in the sense that we can cross those streams a bit."

Sadly for fans of the series, he didn’t confirm anything about Halo 5 or the Xbox 720, so it’s still unclear when these two things will be released.
