There are also measures designed to deal with quitters

Halo 5: Guardians will rely on its multiplayer to remain relevant in the long-term and that means the development team at 343 Industries needs to make sure that there’s a simple and solid way for gamers to compare their performances in the shooter.

After the extensive beta period, the studio announces that the Competitive Skill Rating concept it has introduced has a few bugs which will be addressed in the coming months.

Josh Holmes, the executive producer, explains in an update that the vision of the team will continue to be focused on the performance of the team rather than the player and that Kill/Death ratio will not be taken into account in Halo 5: Guardians.

He adds, “Teams are assessed on their collective skill at the beginning of the match. You gain more by winning against a team that is considered to be stronger than your own. Likewise, losing to a more skilled team will result in a lesser penalty to your CSR. These gains and losses are further modified by a player’s individual CSR relative to the teams at play. So for example, a lower tier player gains more from a win than someone at a higher CSR tier.”

Bonuses will continue to be tweaked in the coming months, and 343 Industries also wants to prevent skill boosting and to better balance teams.

Halo 5: Guardians will also get improved matchmaking

For The Master Chief Collection, one of the biggest issues was the matchmaking, which is still not working at full potential 3 months after launch.

Holmes believes that Halo 5 needs to deliver a balance between matchmaking speed and skill requirements, with more details set to be offered in the coming months.

There are also plans to add more punishment for quitters and also to hide the value of Competitive Skill Rating in actual matches, while making sure that gamers get more info in the lobby and while the match is prepared.

It’s unclear whether 343 Industries has plans to launch a second beta period for Halo 5: Guardians in order to test some of the big changes that it plans to make.

The full launch for the Master Chief-powered shooter will take place in the fall of this year on the Xbox One.
