14 DAY TRIAL // After a very troubled last week for former partners Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry, the custody battle seems to have become somewhat more civil. However, according to The National Enquirer, this is only the calm before the storm.
The tabloid claims in its latest print issue (story via here) that what started the incredibly bitter custody battle was Halle’s attempt at having her current beau step in Gabriel’s shoes in the relationship with Nahla.
As fans must know, Halle and Gabriel have a daughter, Nahla. After things with Oliver Martinez got more serious, Halle tried to get him to replace Gabriel in her daughter’s life.
The model will, of course, not stand for that – so he went and filed papers asking for joint custody.
On the other hand, it’s not just Nahla’s interest that he’s thinking of, the tab further says. Gabriel also knows that Berry is his meal ticket and he’s willing to do whatever he can to make sure he doesn’t lose it.
“Halle is out to protect her pocketbook, while Gabriel is trying to protect his turf as Nahla’s father,” a source close to the former couple says for the Enquirer.
What the world has seen so far amounts to nothing if compared to what will come next, the spy promises. Time for agreements is over – it’s full-on war now.
“This is going to be the custody battle of the century! Halle’s side is saying Gabriel called her the N-word while his friends are saying Halle was jealous of Gabe’s female pals. And the nastiness is just getting started!” says the spy.
Admittedly, though they initially parted ways on very good terms, trouble began before the winter holidays, when Halle told Gabriel that she hoped Nahla will soon see Olivier as a father, which is when Aubry lost his temper.
“He said he didn’t want Olivier around their daughter. Halle shot back that Gabriel didn’t have the right to say anything about who she sees when she’s footing all the bills for their daughter. She told Gabriel she was making a life with Olivier and she hoped Nahla saw him as a father,” says the spy.
“Halle believes that not only is Gabriel jealous she’s found a new man, he’s worried about the gravy train leaving the station. Halle says she’ll be damned if she’s supporting Gabriel. But Gabriel is determined not to lose his daughter,” the insider further explains.
