Actresses Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner testified at the California State Capitol before the Assembly Judiciary Committee in favor of an anti-paparazzi bill that, they believe, would better protect their children from the ever intrusive and increasingly aggressive photographers.

Fragments of their passionate pleas are included in the ABC video report below.

As you can see, Garner, who is a mother of 3, broke down in tears at one point, as she was arguing that, even though she’s a public figure, her children are regular citizens who should be protected against such gross invasions of privacy.

“I don’t want a gang of shouting, arguing, lawbreaking photographers who camp out everywhere we are all day every day to continue traumatizing my kids,” Garner said.

Before her, Halle Berry, who is now pregnant with her second child, explained why they’re putting their star power behind the bill.

“We aren’t just whiny celebrities… We’re moms who are just trying to protect our children,” she said.

After a debate, the bill was passed: paparazzi who alarm or threaten / scare children of stars will be liable for prison time and a fine.
