Hackers have broken into the website of Sony Music Ireland and posted several fake news stories about X Factor, The Script and Rebecca Black.

It's not yet clear who was responsible for the hack or how they did it, but the company took its website offline to investigate. The www.sonymusic.ie domain currently redirects visitors to the Sony Music Ireland Facebook page.

At least three fake news stories made their way onto the website. One claimed that scientists proved the X Factor show is for stupid people.

Another announced that two members of the Irish pop band The Script were found dead in their backstage dressing room at the Aviva Stadium.

The hackers hinted at Sony's poor security with their third news article which claimed that YouTube sensation Rebecca Black has joined the company's security team.

In the past couple of months Sony has been a favorite target for hackers who competed over who can hack into more of the company's online properties.

It all started with the PlayStation Network security breach in April which resulted in the leak of personal, and in some cases financial, details of over 76 million customers.

Its SOE division followed and so did other affiliated websites. It got to the point when there was a new Sony-related hack on a daily basis with customer information being leaked almost every time.

The most prominent hacking group that targeted Sony was LulzSec. When the group disbanded at the end of last month it was responsible for hacking into six separate Sony websites.

Sony Music Portugal and Sony Music Brazil websites were also targeted in the past, but it's not clear if this new Sony compromise is part of the same campaign. For the past few weeks the Sony attacks seemed to have dwindled down.
