Until Apple makes it potentially harmful through a software upgrade

The iPhone Dev Team, the group that developed one of the iPhone unlocking solutions, took a stand on the recent warnings that Apple has made over the potential dangers of unlocking their handset. A spokesman said that the intervention is safe and brings some advantages that cannot be overlooked.

Apple took a strong official stand in the matter of iPhone unlocking, although it took them a considerably long time to do so. The handset's producer warned on the fact that owners choosing to free their iPhones from their current operator's services will lose their warranty. Moreover, Apple said that it is now working on a software update that will make the hacked devices unusable and transform them into expensive bricks.

The iPhone Dev Team considers that making the phone work in any network was a major step forward for the device. A great number of people had a problem with the services of the original carrier, but were constrained to stand them. They consider that the hacking made the iPhone free and useful to a large number of people, not only to those in certain countries.

As a result, people in countries with operators capable of supporting the same frequency had the chance of using the handset a long time before its release. Because of this, the iPhone Dev Team sees the ups of the matter and condemned Apple for its attempt to scare people when choosing to unlock their phones. Their strongest argument is that several hundred thousand people have successfully unlocked their iPhone and are now happier with the services provided by the carrier that they chose for themselves. Apple warned that they are now working on a new firmware upgrade for their handset, one that should destroy the software on the unlocked devices. That's a real danger for those owning a hacked iPhone and who are not aware of Apple's plans. Still, the iPhone Dev Team promises to provide a tool that will enable the owner to restore his phone to a Factory-like state. Until this happens, they recommend that those owning an unlocked phone do not run any upgrades from Apple.
