Pod2g plans to test out his exploit on various devices in the coming days

Chronic Dev member Pod2g has confirmed in a blog post that his efforts to achieve an untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak have culminated today with the hacking of a first-generation iPad. Final testing begins tomorrow, and a public release shouldn’t be too far off.

In a series of updates on his blog, Pod2g wrote: “iPad 1 5.0.1 untethered code is done, testing tomorrow with a friend’s device. Just to let you know my progress in real time. iPhone 3GS 5.0.1 untethered code is done. Testing tomorrow also! iPod 4G 5.0.1 untethered too ! Apple TV 2 4.43 untethered done also. Will be able to test in some days.”

The hacker fails to mention his progress on the iPhone 4. However, his confirmation that the exploit works on all A4 (CPU) devices should be more than enough to stop any precipitations on various jailbreak forums (plus, it's already been confirmed).

Unfortunately, the Chronic Dev hacker is yet to acknowledge any progress with A5-enabled devices, like the iPad 2 and the newest version of Apple’s line of smartphones - the iPhone 4S.

Nevertheless, Pod2g’s latest news should be like music to the ears of those who were eagerly anticipating some updates on the untether-jailbreak front.

The talented software tinkerer also avoids to mention any potential release date for the hack.

And with good reason too. After all, a lot of testing still lays ahead, and it’s not for his own satisfaction (well, maybe that too), but for the iOS community to ensure everyone has a proper working jailbroken device at the end of the day.

The tool to achieve the jailbreak on your iOS device will most likely be Greenpois0n. An updated version for both Mac and Windows should be released simultaneously, whenever Pod2g decides to integrate the ‘untethered’ exploit.
