A hacker has apparently compromised the computer of Cassidy Wolf, recently crowned Miss Teen USA 2013. The attacker used the device’s webcam to take private photos of Wolf and then he tried to blackmail her.

According to Today.com, the hacker had targeted her months before she became Miss Teen USA.

The teen noticed something was amiss around four months ago when Facebook warned her that someone tried to log into her account from another state.

Shortly after, she got an email from an unknown individual who claimed he was in the possession of photos taken via her computer’s webcam. The hacker then tried to blackmail her.

Currently, US authorities are investigating the case so Wolf can’t reveal any details of the case, but she has admitted to using the same password for years.

Now, she claims she’s determined to use her title to raise awareness of cybercrimes.

Back in March, Ars Technica published an extensive report on how cybercriminals used remote access Trojans (RATs) to hijack women’s webcams. On one hacker forum, Ars found a 134-page thread filled with images of women whom the hackers call “slaves.”
