On Monday, mobile phone maker HTC Corporation announced officially that it would start deploying a software update on its HTC Wildfire devices across Europe to offer users a taste of the Android 2.2 Froyo platform version, and it seems that the company already started the roll-out.

Following the official announcement on Froyo's near availability for Wildfire devices out there, Vodafone UK started to deliver the solution to its customers, and it appears that HTC too made the same move for unlocked devices out there.

According to a recent post on the company's support website, the software update will be delivered over the air, and users would be notified on its release.

“Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G,” the handset vendor notes.

It would be recommended for the download to be performed via a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan, since data charges may apply.

Following the installation of the new firmware, users would be able to verify a successfully completed upgrade process through checking the software version on their devices.

“After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Build number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.22.405.1,” HTC notes.

As usual, users interested in downloading and installing the software update are advised to backup all data on their devices before proceeding, so as to make sure that nothing is lost during the installation.

Those who would like to learn more info on the software solution should head to HTC's support website here.

While the OS upgrade is made available at the moment only over the air, there are great chances that HTC would also put it on download online, so keep an eye on this space for more info on the matter.
