Cingular Wireless has launched HTC Star Trek in the U.S. under a new, not so pompous name, the Cingular 3125. The flip phone combines a slim design with functionality suited for business and personal use alike.

The jet-black handset has a thickness of 0.6 inches, weighs 99 grams and fits easily into one's pocket. Powered by Windows Mobile 5.0, the Cingular 3125 gives users access to popular applications like Media Player, Internet Explorer and Outlook. Email support is provided by Microsoft Direct Push Technology and Good Mobile Messaging from Good Technology, as well as by Cingular Xpress Mail. Security features have not been left out, these including remote device wipe, remotely enforced IT policy and S/MIME support.

For the entertainment part, the smartphone offers users an MP3 player powered by Windows Mobile 10, with dedicated control buttons, and a 1.3 megapixel camera with video capture capabilities in 3GPP and MPEG4 formats. Photos and videos can be viewed on a 240x320 LCD screen, with 65k colors. Connectivity features include Infrared, USB, Bluetooth 1.2, that allows the use of wireless handsets; and EDGE for high-speed data transfers.

The processing power is provided by a 195 Mhz processor, accompanied by 64 MB RAM and 64 MB ROM memory, that can be further expanded via microSD cards. Voice communications are possible within GSM networks operating in 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz and 1900MHz frequencies.

The Cingular 3125 is available at a price of $149.99.
