Seems rather confident in its capabilities

HTC seems determined to gain a lot of market share on the United States mobile phone market, at least this is what Jason Mackenzie, vice president of sales and marketing for HTC America, has told Reuters recently. According to him, the mobile phone maker expects to register a 50 percent growth in sales during the ongoing year.

At the same time, the company also expects shipment volumes around the world to rise by 20 percent in 2009 too. The US forecast, however, seems to be far above the company's overall target. As the news indicates, the growth HTC forecasts for the United States should translate into sales of around 6 million phones before the end of the year.

As many of you might already know, the Taiwanese mobile phone maker has established itself as a leading maker of devices running under Google's Android platform, while also being a major vendor of handsets based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system. Although the competition in the smartphone market seems to have become more intense due to new devices coming from rivals like Apple, Palm and Research In Motion, HTC's Jason Mackenzie says that the company will still be able to leverage its sales.

The maker appears to be very confident in its role in the Android area, expecting to be able to maintain its currently leading position. “Competitively we feel very good,” Mackenzie is reported to have stated, although other major handset markers also announced their plans to come to the market with Android-powered mobile phones.

The third Android-based device from the Taiwanese company, the HTC Hero, was launched only two days ago, and it is expected to come to the US market during the fall, stated Mackenzie. Although there is nothing official yet, the first carrier to have the new phone might be AT&T.
