It may be one of the reasons the smartphone has been delayed

The One M9 is the next flagship smartphone to be released on the market, but we might have to wait slightly longer to get our hands on one.

Reports coming from Taiwan claim HTC One M9 has been delayed due to some software issues. Since the smartphone was supposed to hit shelves in Taiwan earlier today and it didn't, it makes sense to assume that the One M9 has some issues that required HTC to postpone it.

Now another piece of information has just emerged online that might be related to the delay of HTC's flagship smartphone.

Many of you probably know by now that HTC One M9 is equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chipset, which had some overheating issues, as proven in previous benchmarks.

Although we thought that Qualcomm managed to fix this overheating issue in its Snapdragon 810 chipset, but it turns out that the HTC One M9 equipped with this SoC (system-on-chip) presents the same problems.

The folks over at Dutch site Tweakers got their hands on an HTC One M9 and run a few benchmarks on the smartphone to see whether or not it overheats.

There might be more than software causing the issue

For comparison reasons, they also ran benchmarks on other smartphones that are equipped with chipsets other than Qualcomm Snapdragon 810.

The results provided show that HTC One M9's chipset continues to overheat and that Qualcomm did not yet manage to patch this problem.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 stayed the coolest in these benchmarks at 37.8 °C, followed closely by HTC One M8 (38.7 °C) and iPhone 6 Plus (39.4 °C).

HTC One M9's surface heated up to a scorching 55.4 °C, which is unacceptable for a flagship handset, or for any smartphone for that matter.

Since unit tested by the Dutch website ran pre-release software, there's a chance that this might be one of the reasons the smartphone overheated during benchmarks.

However, since HTC decided to postpone the launch of the One M9, it looks like the pre-release software is not what caused the overheating issue.
