The smartphone might be announced in a few weeks

It looks like HTC plans to launch an even better Android flagship smartphone in the coming weeks. Many HTC fans were a bit disappointed that the One M9 did not feature the specs they wished for, but the Taiwanese company seems to have its own plan that will probably fulfill everyone's wishes.

The so-called HTC One M9 Plus leaked for the first time ahead of Mobile World Congress 2015 and since the handset maker did not announce it there, we expect this to happen very soon.

The unannounced smartphone was first spotted in benchmarks, but now several live pictures of the alleged HTC One M9 Plus have just popped up online.

The device in these images does seem to have the same size as the One M9 that's been announced last weekend, but the camera on the back is slightly different.

Apart from that, the One M9 and the alleged One M9 Plus shown in these pictures have the same design layout and form factor.

Then, why is this called One M9 Plus and what makes it better than the standard model? Sadly, aside from the benchmarks that leaked in mid-February, we don't have anything confirmed yet.

Display and front camera are real improvements over the One M9

These benchmarks mention the HTC One M9 Plus is powered by a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek processor and a PowerVR Rogue G6200 graphics processing unit. This probably can't be tagged as an improvement over HTC One M9's Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 CPU, which is likely to perform better in benchmarks.

The good news is HTC One M9 Plus will boast a 5.1-inch display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution display. It will also come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

On the back, the smartphone will feature a 20-megapixel camera with LED flash, autofocus and 4K video recording, while in the front there will be a 13-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

There's no mention of microSD card slot for memory expansion and judging from the specs listed in the benchmarks, only the display and front camera have been enhanced. We'll keep an eye out for any additional details, so stay tuned.
