Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has been long rumored to plan the release of new versions of its HTC One (M8) flagship device, including a larger model, and some more info on the matter is now available.

Previously, the phone was said to feature the name of HTC One (M8) Prime or HTC One (M8) Plus, but a new report on the matter suggests that it might actually be launched as HTC One (M8) max.

The info comes from TK Tech News, which claims that the new mobile phone will arrive on the market with exactly the same looks as those of the current HTC flagship, but that it will actually sport different hardware specifications.

Should previous reports on the matter pan out, we might see the new mobile phone variant being announced with a large, 5.5-inch or larger touchscreen display, capable of delivering a full HD resolution.

Today, however, we have learned that the phone might be powered by a Snapdragon 805 processor, which would make it more powerful than the HTC One (M8), which was released with a Snapdragon 801 CPU.

Given the size of this smartphone, it does not come as a surprise that HTC wants to release it with a newer processor inside, especially with LG G3 already available on shelves with a 5.5-inch screen and a Snapdragon 805 CPU in some markets.

Moreover, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 could feature the same chipset, and HTC will certainly want to make sure that its phablet will be able to keep up with the competition.

What remains to be seen, however, is whether the rest of HTC One (M8) max’s hardware specs will be in line with those included in the current flagship.

Provided that they are, we’ll see the phone launched with 2GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, as well as with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system on top, with Sense 6.

However, HTC might not include the UltraPixel duo-camera setup from HTC One (M8) on the new smartphone, replacing it with a 13MP or higher camera sensor instead.

No info on when the new device might go official has been provided as of now, but chances are that it will be launched before the end of this year, and that it will arrive on the market in time for the holiday season. Hopefully, HTC will offer some specific details on the phone soon, so stay tuned to learn the news.
