The original HTC One or the One (M7) was released about 2 years ago. Since then, the smartphone has received quite a lot of updates, including an upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Given the fact that HTC One M7 was released with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system onboard, this is quite an achievement for the Taiwanese company, which is one of the few that offered so many updates to such an old flagship.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is another smartphone that got around the same level of support as the One M7, besides the Nexus devices, of course.

Now that HTC One M7 received Android 5.0 Lollipop in all regions, owners of the smartphones are wondering if the Taiwanese company would also provide them with the latest update released by Google.

As many of you probably know by now, Google recently launched Android 5.1 Lollipop for Nexus devices, but the new version of the mobile platform will make it to other smartphones as well.

No performance improvements and bug fixes for HTC One M7

Sadly, that won't be the case for the old HTC One M7. According to HTC's Mo Versi, the One M7 will not be getting the Android 5.1 Lollipop update.

This is quite unfortunate since Android 5.1 Lollipop brings lots of improvements to smartphones and tablets, including performance enhancements.

On top of that, Android 5.1 Lollipop fixes quite a few bugs reported by users of Android 5.0 Lollipop, so these will probably never be addressed on the HTC One M7 unless the Taiwanese company releases specific updates.

The good news is that HTC confirmed the Google Play Edition version of the One M7 would receive the recently released Android 5.1 Lollipop update. Those who own this particular smartphone should expect to receive the update sometime in early April.
