An official confirmation on the smartphone has yet to be offered

Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation is expected to announce a new flagship Android-based smartphone in the not too distant future, and the handset seems to have appeared online on a French government website.

The phone is known as HTC M8 at the moment, but it appears that HTC might launch it as HTC One 2, which would make sense, considering that it is the successor of last year’s HTC One.

The HTC One 2 name was spotted on OPT.nc alongside the HTC One 2 Dual-SIM, with both of them said to have 3G (900 / 2100 MHz) connectivity packed inside, but no other details on what they might include has been provided as of now.

As PhoneArena notes, the two handsets were listed on the aforementioned site so as to inform users traveling to New Caledonia that they will enjoy 3G connectivity there.

The one thing that remains to be confirmed is that these devices are indeed versions of the HTC M8, considering that HTC has yet to announce the actual market name for this smartphone.

On the other hand, given that the handset was rumored before to be headed for shelves under the HTC One 2 name, there is a possibility that the website was indeed listing info on M8.

Not to mention the fact that it also makes sense for HTC to launch both single- and dual-SIM versions of the device, the same as it did with HTC One last year. A mini version of the phone is also expected to be released soon.

HTC M8 is expected to arrive on shelves with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor packed inside, 2GB of RAM, and a 2900mAh battery. It might sport a 5-inch touchscreen capable of delivering a full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) resolution, thus being larger than the HTC One.

The handset is also said to arrive with a new UltraPixel camera on the back, with two 4MP sensors, which would ensure better imaging capabilities. Android 4.4 KitKat was also rumored to be present on the smartphone.
