Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has been long rumored to be on its way to bring to the market in the United States a new, highly appealing Android-based device from HTC, namely the Merge, and some more info on the matter started to emerge recently.

Additionally, it seems that the handset itself was also spotted on Verizon' website, which should confirm that the wireless services provider is set to launch it pretty soon.

The HTC Merge was spotted at Verizon by a member of the Android Central Forums, though no additional info on when might the new smartphone be put on sale emerged for the time being.

However, some of the previous rumors on the matter suggested that we might see the Android device being launched within days. Although the handset is no longer accessible on Big Red's website, the brief appearance it made there seems to indicate a very near launch.

As for what would the mobile phone pack inside when released on Big Red's network, we can count a large (most probably 3.7-inch) touchscreen display, complemented by a sliding QWERTY keyboard, and a 800MHz application processor inside.

The handset should sport a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with 720p video recording capabilities, a 3.5mm headphone jack, microUSB port, and support for 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options.

HTC Merge was said to include 363MB of RAM, along with around 1.3GB of users available internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for removable storage.

The usual Google and Verizon applications and service should also be included into the mix, along with Microsoft's Bing, which was made the default search engine on the carrier's Android devices.

The HTC Merge is expected to arrive on shelves at Verizon with Google's Android 2.2 operating system loaded on it right from the start.

Unfortunately, nothing was confirmed officially on the arrival of this smartphone at Verizon, but it should not be too long before the wireless carrier makes the move, so keep an eye on this space for more info.
