With a new app, new games

Windows Mobile 6.5-based HTC HD2 has just been blessed with an official software update from T-Mobile USA and HTC. The solution emerged into the wild a few days ago and has been pulled soon after, yet now all has been officially announced, and T-Mobile customers owning an HTC HD2 can head over to their carrier's support website to download and install it on their handsets.

“A software update for the HTC HD2 is now available bringing several improvements to the HTC HD2’s software experience. In addition to device stability and performance improvements, we’ve also added the MyAccount application for managing your T-Mobile account directly from your device,” a recent post on the T-Mobile forums notes.

According to that post, the HTC HD2 will be restored back to the factory settings after installing the update, which means that users will need to perform a backup of all important files on the device before proceeding with the installation. All data on the phone will be wiped out, and the backup will ensure that no important info or personal files will be lost in the process. Users are also advised to write down settings for their e-mail accounts, and to make sure they have access to passwords for applications that require one, as they will need to re-login.

In addition to that MyAccount application added to the mix, HD2 owners will also notice the inclusion of a series of games in the software update, such as Ferrari GT Evolution, Millionaire 2010, and Prince of Persia. Unfortunately, it seems that those who purchased the full version of these games prior to this update will have to re-purchase them at standard price, since the handset will suffer a master reset during the installation. Other games installed on the microSD won't be affected.

The forum post also notes other aspects that users need to take into consideration when it comes to the solution, including: - If you have rented a movie from BLOCKBUSTER On Demand, your rental will no longer be available after the update, therefore you may wish to watch any rented movies prior to initiating the update. There is not an option to receive credit for the rental or to re-rent the movie without paying the standard fee. You will still have access to your purchased movies, but you will need to download the movie files again. Reminder: A Wi-Fi connection is needed to download movies. - If you have downloaded any eBooks from the Barnes & Noble application, you will need to re-download those eBooks upon syncing the application with your Barnes & Noble account. Note: bookmarks will be lost, so remember what page you were on! - All personalized settings (wallpaper, home screen, etc) will need to be set up again.
