Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has just released a new software update for the Windows Mobile-based HTC HD mini device on O2's airwaves, in the form of a new ROM, sporting version 1.38.206.4.

The company announced the availability of the new software update via its support website, but it does not offer specific info on changes that were included in it.

“An updated ROM is now available for HTC HD mini (O2) users to download. As always, HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience,” the company notes on its website.

According to HTC, those users interested in downloading and installing the new software on their devices should first check to see whether the ROM's version is newer than the one on their phones.

“Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently installed on your device. If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software,” the company notes.

In order to find what software version the handset runs under, one would need to go to Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, where all the info on ROM version, CPU, and Radio version is available.

We should also note that this is only a generic software update, and that any specific applications or settings that the wireless carrier provided would be lost following the update.

Moreover, users should be warned that the update process will erase all data on their devices, which means that they should backup all data on the phone, to make sure that they won't lose important info during the process.

All the necessary info on the new software update for HTC HD mini can be found on the company's website here. The ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU) was made available for download from there as well.
