A new range of mid-tier smartphones will be released in the coming months

HTC Corporation, once a pioneer in the smartphone market, is slowly losing ground in front of rivals, as it expects some rough months ahead, though it still appears happy with the sales of its latest top-range models.

HTC One, the latest flagship Android-based smartphone from the Taiwanese mobile phone maker, is performing better than last year’s high-end HTC handsets, the company has confirmed on Tuesday.

Despite slow sales and various issues with components supplies, which affected the handset’s performance on the market, HTC appears to be rather happy with how HTC One fared so far, at least this is what the company said in a press release.

“The new HTC One has performed well in the market, better than that of our hero products for the same period last year. We aim to extend the momentum as we enter into the second half of 2013,” HTC said.

“The new HTC One has also helped the company establish strong brand awareness and received numerous accolades as the world’s best smart phone. With the help of HTC One, we have regained superphone market share across major markets including China.”

New flavors of HTC One are set to arrive on shelves in more markets around the world, including the recently unveiled HTC One mini, a smaller flavor of the flagship, which should help it increase sales.

However, the company’s financial performance in the third quarter is expected to drop to negative levels, despite of how HTC One fared.

The vendor is planning the release of new mid-level models to regain momentum starting with the fourth quarter of the year, it seems.

“We also have plans underway to launch a range of innovative and competitive mid-tier products in the coming months. We hope to regain momentum and market share in these segments in Q4. This will address our challenge of mid-tier products competiveness,” the company said.

In Asia, the company managed to gain some more market share, and claims to have seen improvements in markets such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and China. Furthermore, HTC is tightening its carrier relations in South Asia, so as to ensure growth in the area as well.
