Whether it is because of the Puccini's emergence or not, the Flyer tablet from HTC has been found to have undergone a fairly significant drop in price, at least in the UK.

Users keeping track of developments on the tablet market will likely have learned of the new project HTC has cooked up.

Dubbed the Puccini slate, it is going to start shipping before the end of the ongoing third quarter.

Already named Jetstream by AT&T, the slate may have started to affect products already on sale.

As discovered by a the folks over at Eurodroid, the HTC Flyer has undergone a fairly sharp price cut, possibly signaling that it will step aside to let the Puccini shine.

Of course, considering that its price actually was considered more than a bit too high, this could also just be a natural course of action to encourage sales.

In the US, the Flyer was released with a tag of $499, though European stores went well beyond even that (BestBuy UK, for instance, had it listed for a full £480).

It is that very store (BestBuy) that has now started to sell the Flyer for much less, £329 in fact, which implies a price drop of a sum equivalent to $245.

The event does nothing to suggest whether or not US stores will also perform such a maneuver, of course, but one can always hope.

For those that want a reminder, the Flyer has a screen (liquid crystal display) of 7 inches (600 x 1024 resolution), a single-core processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz, 1 GB of RAM (random access memory), plus up to 32 GB of NAND Flash storage.

The only so-called disadvantage is has is that it lacks the Honeycomb OS (Android 3.0, 3.1 or 3.2). Instead, it makes do with the Android 2.3.3, otherwise known as Gingerbread, for now at least.
