Sprint's HTC EVO Shift 4G, the Android-based handset that arrived on shelves earlier this year as the successor of the award-winning HTC EVO 4G, is now available for purchase for free via leading retailer Wirefly.

Those who would like to purchase a new HTC EVO Shift 4G will have to commit to a two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier if they want to benefit from the said deal on it.

At Wirefly, the mobile phone is listed as available for free on the Sprint $69.99 month plan. If purchased contract free, the device would cost $449.99.

“The HTC EVO Shift 4G for Sprint follows in the footsteps of the award-winning HTC EVO 4G. The EVO Shift 4G brings customers an attractive, streamlined design with the addition of a sliding QWERTY keyboard and an astonishing list of features,” the retailer notes on its website.

The mobile phone comes with a 3.6-inch capacitive touchscreen display on the front, featuring pinch-to-zoom capabilities, with the aforementioned sliding QWERTY keyboard hidden beneath it.

On the back, the device sports a 5 megapixel photo snapper with support for 720p HD video recording.

Moreover, just as its name suggests, the handset comes with support for the wireless carrier's 4G services, in addition to being able to connect to its 3G CDMA network.

It also sports WiFi and Hotspot capabilities, as well as Bluetooth connectivity, built-in GPS receiver, 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD memory card slot, and the usual set of sensors.

The HTC EVO Shift 4G runs under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, with the HTC Sense user experience loaded on top of it.

“EVO Shift's custom browser is optimized for convenient mobile use with functions like pinch-to-zoom and automatically reflowing text, while Sprint 4G speeds ensure that rich internet content are displayed the way they are meant to be seen,” Wirefly continues.

“The slide-out QWERTY keyboard makes staying in touch through messaging and social networking quick and easy. With built-in mobile hotspot functionality, EVO Shift 4G also allows up to 8 WiFi-enabled devices to enjoy the benefits of 3G/4G speeds on-the-go.”
