The S710 was the first Windows Mobile handset to become available on the market, and according to a recent announcement from Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC, more such devices are to follow throughout the following months.

Moreover, HTC will also be offering WM6 upgrades for its more popular devices that are currently available on the market. The list includes 'recently launched messaging products' such as the HTC Advantage (aka Ameo or Athena), HTC TyTn, S620, P4350, P3300 and several other operator-branded devices.

According to HTC the devices included in the list were chosen due to their particular focus on messaging, where users will enjoy the greatest benefits of the new OS. While it's not a sure thing, the update may become available for several other devices.

HTC has said to be in constant discussion with its operator partners and in case they see a significant demand for a specific device, the will consider providing an update to WM6 for it.

The upgrades will be rolled out starting this month and will be charge free, while users of operator-branded handsets will have to wait until June for an upgrade. Windows Mobile 6 delivers several new and interesting features. It enables the user to view emails in its rich original HTML format, available from a corporate email server.

Also including Windows Live, customers will be able to chat with more than one person at a time, use animated figures, send files or images and record and send voice notes. WM6 also comes with upgraded versions of the usual document viewers such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. All of the devices running the OS also feature Direct Push technology for up-to-date email delivery.
