The successor of the popular HTC Desire, the Desire S is now available for purchase in Singapore for S$688 (about $545).

Even though it comes with quite a number of improvements over the original Desire, the smartphone is not the best in its price range.

The Desire S will face a stiff competition once Sony Ericsson’s new Xperia lineup hits the shelves in Singapore, including Xperia arc, Xperia Play and Xperia Neo.

Unlike the original device, the HTC Desire S is made from a single block of aluminum, which gives it a solid and natural feel.

With Qualcomm's new 1GHz Snapdragon MSM8255 processor and the Adreno 205 GPU (graphical processing unit), the HTC Desire S offers snappy performance.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform is another improvement over the popular Desire, as well as the presence of a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera.

Additionally, the HTC Desire S packs 1.1 GB ROM, and features HSDPA (14.4 Mbps) and HSUPA (5.76 Mbps) support.

The 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash offers users the possibility to capture High-Definition videos (720p@30fps).

The phone also includes the latest HTC Sense, the manufacturer's unique user interface focused on maximum customization.

HTC developed the HTC Sense experience to bring cutting-edge innovation to our customers in simple and natural ways that just make sense, this is what HTC Desire S represent best,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The new phone offers an exhilarating mix of style, innovation and features that extend people’s mobile experience in ways that feel personal and completely original.”

The part where the HTC Desire S shines is the battery life, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 430 hours (455 hours for 3G) of talk time or up to 10 hours (7 hours for 3G) of talk time.
