Recently, mobile phone carrier Orange UK has announced the purchase availability on its airwaves of a new, highly appealing smartphone, the HTC Desire S.

The new mobile phone was launched in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with Google's new Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board.

The HTC Desire S is now available from Orange UK for free upon the signing of a contract agreement with the carrier on £35 a month price plans, the carrier announced.

“Orange continues to offer the latest innovative devices on the market. The HTC Desire S will allow customers to enjoy the combined benefits of great functionality with a proven operating system for the best user experience,” Nicola Shenton, Head of Device Portfolio, Everything Everywhere said.

Starting with April 8th, the new device is available for purchase via all Orange retail stores in the UK, on Pay Monthly price plans for both business and consumer customers, the wireless carrier announced.

The new mobile phone comes as the direct successor of HTC Desire, which was one of the most popular smartphones on shelves during the last year.

“Building on the success of one of the hottest smartphones of 2010, the HTC Desire, the HTC Desire S provides a slimmer body whilst packing even more power,” Orange notes.

The new HTC Desire S sports a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, just as its predecessor, as well as a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with HD video recording capabilities, complemented by a VGA front facing camera.

The mobile phone's specification list includes 1.1GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (an 8GB card included in the package).

Moreover, it would sport 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options, as well as built-in GPS receiver, 3.5mm headphone jack, and more.

“The device is the first Android device from HTC that supports Signal Boost and also contains a wide range of Signature services including Orange Mail and Orange Maps,” the wireless carrier concluded.

HTC Desire S was made available for purchase from Orange's online shop as well.
