Orange UK has just gone live with the “coming soon” page of a special edition of the popular HTC Desire HD smartphone. Apparently, the carrier had some success last year when it made the same move with the original HTC Desire.

With the exception of the device’s color, which is now black, the special edition does not differ from the original version when it comes to hardware.

The information page of the HTC Desire HD Black includes all the features of the phone, which doesn't come up with anything new either.

Perhaps customers who buy the HTC Desire HD Black will receive some bundled software or additional accessories along with the device, but chances are pretty slim.

As a reminder, HTC Desire HD is powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor (with Adreno 205 GPU) and runs the Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform out of the box.

It has a 4.3-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors, 480 x 800 pixels resolution, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, as well as HTC Sense UI.

The Desire HD Black boasts an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash, geo-tagging, face detection and video recording capabilities (720p).

Other highlights of the smartphone include: HSDPA 14.4 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, DLNA function, 1.5 GB of internal memory, 768 MB RAM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB included), Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, Stereo FM radio with RDS and GPS with A-GPS support.

Currently, Orange UK does not retail the standard HTC Desire HD, but HTC Desire Black Edition is still available for purchase.

There are no details about the HTC Desire HD Black special edition upcoming release date but it shouldn't take too long until the phone hits the shelves.
