One of the appealing new devices set to become available for purchase in the coming months is the HTC Desire 816, which was officially introduced in late February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and which will roll out to shelves starting with March.

The handset was on display at HTC’s stand at the conference, but the company did not bring along a working prototype for people to put their hands on, and one of the greatest questions that remained unanswered following the unveiling was related to the OS version loaded on the phone.

However, new info on the device suggests that HTC will launch it with Android 4.4 KitKat loaded on top right from the start, at least in China.

The smartphone, which is expected to arrive on shelves in this country first, has already received the necessary approvals from China’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center (Tenaa), where it was listed with Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Basically, this suggests that the smartphone will be launched in other markets around the world with KitKat on top as well, despite the lack of an official announcement from HTC one the matter.

As PhoneArena notes, HTC Desire 816 will be released in the United States as well, and it should hit shelves at AT&T and Sprint there. However, others might also decide to add it to their offerings.

HTC Desire 816 was made official as a mid-range smartphone, packing a 5.5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution.

Moreover, the new device comes with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor packed inside (a Snapdragon 400 CPU), as well as with 1.5GB of RAM.

On the back, it features a 13-megapixel camera, most probably capable of recording videos in full HD resolution, paired with a 5MP front camera for making video calls.

The specs list of this handset also includes 8GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, and a 2600mAh battery. The phone will also pack support for 4G LTE networks.

HTC is also determined to provide users with various personalization options when it comes to the HTC Desire 816, and it has already confirmed that the phone will be launched in a great deal of color options.

However, it seems that, in addition to the white, gray, black, red, indigo (or dark blue), and green color options that HTC has showcased at MWC 2014, the smartphone will also arrive on the market in yellow and pink. The new color options were showcased on HTC China’s website.
