The Desire 816 is one of the most popular mid-range smartphones launched by HTC last year. Most of the sales were done in China, but the Desire 816 is a very good deal when it comes to specs / price ratio.

Although the smartphone was made available first in China, HTC has decided to bring the Desire 816 to all countries where it sells its products.

HTC Desire 816 was launched on the market exactly a year ago with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box.

Since HTC is known for bringing major updates to most of its high-end smartphones, Desire 816 owners were probably expecting to get the Lollipop update at some point.

Well, there's good news for HTC Desire 816. It looks like the smartphone will be getting Android 5.0.2 Lollipop sometime in April.

The information has been confirmed by @LlabTooFeR, a well-known HTC leaker, so we can safely assume that the Desire 816 will receive the update next month.

HTC may continue to support the Desire 816 for at least 1 more year

Unfortunately, the Android 5.0 Lollipop for HTC Desire 816 will only be available in the European region, so those who purchased the smartphone in other regions will have to wait a bit longer.

It's unclear whether or not this will be the last major Android update for the Desire 816, but HTC should continue to support it for at least one more year or so.

HTC Desire 816 continues to sell well, especially due to its under $200 price tag. The smartphone is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

It also sports a 5.5-inch Super LCD2 capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution. On the back, there's a 13-megapixel camera with LED flash, autofocus and full HD (1080p) video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies.
