HTC Desire 500 is already available for purchase in India for quite some time now, but the Taiwanese handset maker made the smartphone official only today.

According to fonearena, the Desire 500 has been officially introduced in India for Rs. 24,290 ($390/€285) outright, slightly lower than the price offered by some major retailers across the country.

HTC Desire 500 is a mid-range smartphone by definition, though it’s priced a bit higher in comparison with other devices with similar hardware and software configuration. This is probably the main reason HTC won’t sell too many Desire 500 units on the Indian market.

Nevertheless, the handset all the features an Indian consumer expects from a smartphone, including dual-SIM support and Stereo FM Radio.

On the inside, the Desire 500 is equipped with a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, an Adreno 203 graphics processing unit, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.

A microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB) is included as well. The smartphone sports a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution display and 217 ppi (pixel density).

It also packs an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording, as well as a secondary 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.

Keep in mind HTC Desire 500 ships with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system and Sense 5.0 UI out of the box.

“The Desire range has become renowned for bringing a premium mobile experience to the mass market. This particular model, the Desire 500, is no different. It is perfect for people who are always-on-the-go, it enables powerful multitasking and live-streaming of important and interesting information, and it boasts an excellent camera and that bring your important moments to life,” said Faisal Siddiqui, Country Head HTC India.
