The company is committed to delivering update for 2 years

Good news for HTC One M8 for Windows owners, as the Taiwanese company has just confirmed their flagship Windows Phone smartphone will receive software updates for 2 years after its launch.

The statement makes sense since Microsoft is about to release Windows 10 for Phones and HTC One M8 is one of the few high-end smartphones powered by Windows Phone that customers can choose from.

HTC One M8 for Windows has been released in the US and is now available at all major carriers in the country (except Sprint), so there might be a slight (or long) delay between Microsoft's launch of Windows 10 for Phones and the availability of the update for this particular smartphone.

While Lumia smartphone have been getting a few update that brought additional new features and improvements, HTC One M8 for Windows did not get any updates that could improve users experience.

Carrier-branded units will get the update slightly later

Even after Microsoft releases Windows 10 for Phones to HTC One M8, there will still be some features that will only be available of Lumia smartphones.

Anyway, if you had any doubts that HTC will provide One M8 for Windows with any major updates in the future, then the company's new statement should dissipate them.

We're certain that carrier-branded HTC One M8 for Windows will receive the upcoming Windows 10 for Phones update slightly later than other unlocked handsets, but that is to be expected since each network operator wants to test the update before pushing it to its customers.

It's also nice to know that all the other major updates to be released by Microsoft after Windows 10 for Phones will be available for HTC One M8 as well, at least until August 2016.

This is when the 2-year window timeframe ends and HTC is expected to halt support for the Windows Phone handset.
