Before the end of this year, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation should make official a successor for its popular HTC Butterfly handset, and a leaked image that allegedly depicts this device has emerged online today.

The mobile phone, currently said to be called HTC B2 (short for HTC Butterfly 2, most probably), will resemble a lot the HTC One M8, the latest flagship handset from the company.

The image comes from infamous tipster @evleaks and confirms that the new mobile phone will sport stereo front-facing speakers, the same as the One M8, as well as a front camera for video calling.

No info on the handset itself was attached to the newly leaked press photo, but previous rumors suggested that it would land on shelves with the same hardware as the HTC One M8.

This means that it might sport a 5-inch full HD touchscreen display complemented by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM.

Moreover, we might see it released with 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, and the same dual camera on the back as the current HTC flagship.

The phone should run under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right from the start, with HTC’s own Sense user interface loaded on top.

However, some of the previous rumors on the smartphone have suggested that it could actually land on shelves with a faster, more powerful processor, in the form of the 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805.

The mobile phone was also said to be aimed at only a small number of markets in Asia, though HTC is expected to release it in Europe and other areas of the world as well, just as it did with the HTC Butterfly before it.

For the time being, the smartphone is said to be tightly related to the HTC J Butterfly, the Japanese version of the Butterfly, due to the fact that it will hit the market in this country initially.

As TalkAndroid notes, this also means that the new phone will be featured-packed, though not all of the capabilities that it will sport in Japan will be included in the international version as well.

The one thing that hasn’t been unveiled as of now is when exactly the smartphone will arrive on shelves, though it seems that this will happen sometime in the second half of the year. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
