Taiwanese handset maker HTC was the first company to announce it will offer the next version of Android as an update to some of the most popular smartphones in its portfolio.

Motorola did the same thing recently and confirmed it would bring Android 5.0 Lollipop to no less than 9 of its Moto smartphones, but also announced that details on timings would be available once the new OS got officially released on the market.

Google also unveiled that the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 smartphones as well as all Google Play Edition devices will get the new update in the coming weeks. Other handset makers have yet to confirm the Lollipop update for their devices.

Back to HTC, although the company said it would offer the Android 5.0 Lollipop to some of its devices, it didn’t say which one would be eligible for the upgrade.

While we could safely assume that the One M8 would definitely get it first, there are lots of Android users who own mid-range HTC smartphones who still don’t know whether or not their device will receive the Lollipop update.

This is one of the reasons HTC had to reply to dozens of tweets in the last 24 hours, which were asking what the company’s update plans for some of the mid-range Android smartphones are.

HTC One M8 and One M7 will be the first to receive the Lollipop update

Obviously, one of the first to be confirmed was the One M8, but HTC also stated clearly that the One M7 will get the update as well. It’s also worth mentioning that HTC said that both One M8 and One M7 smartphone should receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update within 90 days from the moment Google sends them the new OS.

Next in line, HTC One mini and One mini 2 have been confirmed for a Lollipop upgrade as well. However, unlike the high-end smartphones mentioned earlier, which will be the first to receive the update, timings for Lollipop for these particular two handsets will be announced later on.

Keep in mind that these four smartphones confirmed to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop in the coming months are certainly not the only ones to get the update. HTC specifically said that it would announce the full list of devices eligible for the upgrade at a later date.

It’s also worth mentioning that all Android users who own HTC smartphones will have to wait at least a few months until Android 5.0 Lollipop arrives on their devices.
