Hewlett-Packard has announced the availability of four more ProLiant servers to target the small and mid-sized businesses. According to company officials, these new additions to the ProLiant family will bring more compact systems at more affordable prices.

The HP ProLiant DL185 G5 is a double-processor machine that takes up 2U in a rack space. It can be configured to run either as single- or dual-processor configuration and its sockets are designed for AMD's Opteron 2200 processors. The server is highly optimized for mail and messaging services, as well as for common operations such as video capture and online gaming. The server has enough room, should additional drives be added. It supports up to 14 large form-factor, hot plug drives for a maximum amount of 10.4 TB of storage space. Starting at an average selling price of $1,750, the server comes with dual networking interface cards, three PCI-Express slots and optional redundant power supplies.

The second server in the ProLiant clan is the DL160 G5, an 1U server powered by two quad-core 5400 Xeon processors with 1660 MHz front-side buses. The server can accommodate up to 32GB of RAM, but it only features an internal storage capacity of up to 3TB on four 750GB SATA drives. It is priced at $1,400 and is available immediately.

The DL180 G5 is a generic server that lies on a 2U rack. It is powered by two Intel quad-core server processors and features three PCI-E slots, 12 large form-factor SATA drives for a total of 9 TB of storage space. Optionally, you can add redundant power supplies. It will start shipping as of February at an undisclosed price.

The ProLiant DL165 G5 server model is an 1U rack mounted server running on two Opteron-based processors. It is the first rack server to come with four 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drives. The model will start shipping in late March and is scheduled to replace the older ProLiant DL145.
