1.2GHz dual-core application processors are becoming increasingly popular these days: Samsung's Galaxy S II has one, HTC Sensation has another, and HP's Pre3 smartphone seems to be on its way to the market with a similar chip as well. Unveiled to the world with a single-core 1.4GHz application processor inside, the HP Pre3 is said to have traded the CPU for a more powerful dual-core chip.

When having a look at the Pre3 website, users will see it listed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-CPU APQ8060 1.2GHz application processor inside, which leaves little room for supposition on the matter.

The rest of the handset's specifications seem to have remained the same, including the 8GB or 16GB internal storage USB mass storage support, the 3.58-inch touchscreen display, sliding QWERTY keyboard, 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with HD 720p video recording, and the like.

For the time being, the only thing that seems that have remained shrouded in mystery is the actual release date for the webOS-powered smartphone.

Previously, it was listed with a possible availability date of July 8th in the UK, but the say came and gone, and nothing happened.

Some of the latest rumors on the matter suggest that the smartphone might be set to arrive on shelves in the united states as soon as July 21st, and that both AT&T and Verizon Wireless might be set to add it to their offerings.

The handset was seen in the FCC courtyard about two months ago, with support for Verizon's network packed inside, suggesting that the release date might not be that far either.

Having a new application processor inside the smartphone can be seen as the main cause for its delay. If things were already put in order, HP might be set to make the device's availability date official soon, so keep an eye on this space for additional info on the matter.  (via)
