Advanced Micro Devices and VIA may not make the news as often as Intel does on the enterprise computer market, but HP has decided to change this a bit by releasing both types of thin clients.

The company has two new thin clients to offer, dubbed HP t610 Flexible Series Thin Client and HP t510 Thin Client.

The former is powered by a 1.65 GHz AMD G-series dual-core processor with built-in Radeon Graphics and passive cooling.

The APU has DirectX 11 and 3D visual effects support, plus a low enough power draw which has earned the client ENERGY STAR qualification.

HP offers two configurations: Standard and PLUS, the latter featuring extra legacy ports, quad-head display graphics capabilities and connectivity options supporting fiber network interface cards and enterprise-class wireless.

The other system, HP t510, relies on a 1 GHz VIA Eden X2 U4200 dual-core chip and the VIA Chromotion HD 2.0 graphics.

"With these new, flexible thin clients, businesses can protect their data more effectively, and they get an exceptional user experience with better graphics and video performance," said Jeff Groudan, director, marketing, Thin Clients, HP.

"We also made sure the t610 and t510 are easy to integrate and manage with a broad set of management tools."

HP's two creations have 2 GB RAM each and GPUs that can offload computing from the server to the chipset (better streaming and HD graphics processing on one or more monitors).

"The HP t510 and t610 flexible series thin clients provide the performance and security enterprise users are looking for along with increased manageability for the system administrator," said John Doyle, director, product management, Windows Embedded, Microsoft.

"In particular, the plug-in for Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 enables IT professionals to manage embedded devices in a similar manner to PCs and servers through a single integrated solution, simplifying embedded device integration and management."

March/April is when sales will start, depending on the region (Asia Pacific and Japan first, America and Europe later). The price of the HP t610 Flexible Series Thin Client will be $399 (303.46 Euro), while the t510 will sell for $259 (197 Euro).
