Similar specs, better price

More than 24 hours after the worldwide leading vendor of computer systems, HP, officially introduced its new lineup of ultra-portable computers systems, with the Mini 1000 netbook family, we now have details on yet another model. The new netbook is dubbed Compaq Mini 700, and appears to boast a specifications list similar to that of the rest of the Mini 1000 models, the only difference being that it comes with a more affordable price tag and even a few more features.

There's obviously a catch to the entire story, as the purported netbook hasn't yet been confirmed by the Palo Alto, California-based systems vendor and, for the time being, it has only surfaced in the UK, so there's no way of telling whether the company plans to unveil it on a worldwide scale as well. Still, several of the netbook's technical specifications have been made available, along with some press photos as well, which can indicate that HP might just have an ace up its sleeve.

The Compaq Mini 700 appears to be the obvious choice for those computer users that want to take advantage of Intel's Atom platform in an HP-built package, but without having to pay extra bucks for it. According to t3, the Compaq Mini is a good £100 cheaper than the HP Mini 1000, while bringing pretty much the same technical specifications, and then some.

The Compaq model is powered by the same Intel Atom N270 CPU, running at 1.6GHz, has a 10.2-inch display, and can provide 8GB and 16GB of SSD storage. It has Bluetooth and wireless connectivity, but goes a step further thanks to the integrated HSDPA. Coming in an ultra-portable form factor, it has a 25.55mm thin chassis and 1.1kg in weight.

Also, it looks like the Compaq model is going to become available before the HP Mini 1000 netbook, which means that more people are likely to buy one during this year's Christmas shopping frenzy.
